Optical Technologies in Bavaria

Bavaria: Number One Location in Germany

Several nationwide analyses revealed that Bavaria of all the federal states has a disproportionately large number of enterprises in the field of Optical Technologies:

With more than 460 registered actors, the optics and photonics potential in Bavaria thus represents Germany’s strongest network in terms of numbers.

These 460 actors are:

about 400 enterprises
9 universities and 17 universities of applied sciences
8 research institutes working with photonics
40 service providers

The federal state Berlin/Brandenburg by comparison counts 260 actors and, according to a recently published analysis, 144 enterprises of the optical industry are located in Thuringia*).

Of all federal states Bavaria has the largest number of enterprises in the field of Optical Technologies. It is thus legitimate to refer to Bavaria as the number one photonics location in Germany.
